Hannie McGarity started playing violin at age 10 in Bellingham, WA. She graduated with her Bachelor of Music from St. Olaf College in 2019, where she studied with Dr. Francesca Anderegg. As the winner of the 2017 Edvard Grieg Society of Minnesota String Competition, she performed at the International Grieg Society Seminar in Bergen, Norway. In 2018 she played a solo recital for the Bellingham Festival of Music. With the St. Olaf Orchestra she was a featured soloist multiple times, she toured many parts of the United States, Argentina, Uruguay, and Norway, and as concertmaster she led the orchestra onstage at Carnegie Hall. Hannie has spent summers studying at music festivals including Domaine Forget, Brevard, ENCORE, and Marrowstone.
Hannie now freelances in the Twin Cities and enjoys teaching children and adults both privately and in chamber ensembles. She plays and teaches classical violin as well as other styles, including fiddle and jazz. Hannie is a passionate violinist who is enthusiastic about sharing her love of music with her students! Hannie joined Kramer’s School of Music in 2020.
