Shane Akers

Shane Akers is a Twin Cities based guitarist and resophonic guitarist (aka: dobro). He received his AAS degree in Music Performance from McNally Smith College of Music while studying under jazz guitarists Mike Elliot and Kevin Daley. He was selected to receive the Jack McNally scholarship to return for a Studio Performance degree as well.

After completing the two curriculums as a guitar student in the early 2000s, he immediately began teaching privately and performing in various venues and ensembles. Some notable performances/recordings include playing and touring with artists such as Reina del Cid, Chuck Suchy and Peter Ostroushko, Sarah Morris, Scott Laurent, Doug Otto, The Dollys, and Elliott Blaufuss. He has had the honor of co-billing shows with artists such as Sturgill Simpson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Eric Hutchinson.

For over two decades, Shane has enjoyed teaching and helping students find their musical voices and musical paths. His teaching method focuses on the fundamentals of the instrument and music while also incorporating the student’s interest and musical preferences. Helping students find their own musical journey is one of his main objectives. Shane is well versed in the genres of bluegrass, folk, blues, rock, country, and jazz. He teaches guitar, dobro (resophonic guitar), mandolin, and ukulele.
