Andrew Wilkowske

Andy Wilkowske, praised by Opera News as “a natural comedian and a fine singer,” is a versatile baritone celebrated for his engaging performances across opera and theater stages. With over 30 productions at Minnesota Opera and roles at renowned companies like Los Angeles Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Cincinnati Opera, Wilkowske has earned acclaim as a skilled singing actor and collaborator. Locally, he has been a soloist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Theater Latté Da, Skylark Opera, Nautilus Music Theater, Opera Reading Project, and the Minnesota Orchestra, including performances in Carmina Burana with conductor Osma Vänskä.

 

Known for his “vocal swagger” (Opera News), Wilkowske excels in both traditional operatic repertoire and world premieres, including Silent Night by Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell, and The Grapes of Wrath by Ricky Ian Gordon. As a creator, he merges classical techniques with rock sensibilities in innovative projects like Guns N’ Rosenkavalier, blending works by Brahms and Schumann with songs from Van Halen and Madonna. He and librettist Kelley Rourke were commissioned by Theater Latté Da in Minneapolis to reimagine Verdi/Piave’s opera “Macbeth” as “Macbeth and the Weïrd Sisters” for rock band instrumentation.

 

As a teacher, Wilkowske believes in meeting each student where they are on their musical journey, providing them with personalized tools and guidance to develop their unique musical voice. His teaching style is professional, caring, supportive, and enthusiastic, creating an environment where students feel empowered to explore their potential.

 

Wilkowske is committed to fostering a love of music in his students while equipping them with the technical skills and artistic sensibilities needed to succeed.
