Jenessa Iverson

Jenessa is a professional local actor, musician, and vocal director. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 2021 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies. Since graduating school, she has performed at local theaters including the Minnesota Opera, the Old Log Theatre, the History Theatre, and more. She is also an active vocal director and pit musician.

Although Jenessa works frequently in the world of theatre, she has taught and performed in a variety of genres, including jazz, pop, rock, and classical music. She speaks conversational Spanish and German, and is happy to educate pronunciation in both of those languages. She also writes and accompanies her own music, so if you are looking to learn how to accompany yourself while singing, she may be a good fit for you!

Jenessa prioritizes the comfortability of the singer at all times, with a strong emphasis on vocal health. Proper vocal hygiene, including warm ups and cool downs, are an essential part of her teaching philosophy. Connecting the breath to the voice, as well as the mind and the body, is also a core part of her pedagogy. She maintains that a person’s voice is a larger representation of their sense of self, and learning to understand one’s own voice helps their overall personal growth. She seeks to foster the utmost compassion for her students as they learn to navigate an essential part of themselves!
