Matt Avenson

Matt Avenson graduated from South Dakota State University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in music education – instrumental. He was principle tuba in the Wind Symphony, trombone in orchestra and trumpet in jazz band. During his time at SDSU Matt marched tuba with River City Rhythm Drum and Bugle Corps based out of Anoka, MN. During his time in the corps Mr. Avenson developed musically and mentally as the mindset of self-reflection for personal growth instilled in marchers which applies to everyday life has guided me to strive for self-growth.

Throughout his time studying at SDSU he developed his capabilities as a tuba player. Along with building the fundamental skills necessary to perform on a variety of brass instruments filling in for euphonium sections, trumpet sections, and bass trombone. He is proficient in BBb and CC tuba playing. He was in leadership for the sousaphone section for three years, two as the section leader and handling the sousaphone section is sometimes easier said than done.
